Key Features
Optical performance: fused silica has good transmittance in the ultraviolet and infrared bands, and is suitable for making optical elements such as UVC quartz chips and laser cavities.
Its coefficient of thermal expansion is extremely small (5.8 × 10 ⁻⁷/℃), and it has high thermal shock stability, making it suitable for environments with sudden temperature changes.
High temperature resistance: The melting point is about 1713 ℃, and the thermal conductivity changes significantly with temperature. It can transfer heat through radiation at high temperatures,
making it suitable for high-temperature sensing or investment casting. However, crystallization may occur at temperatures above 1000 ℃, which can affect transparency.
Light guiding principle
The fused silica light guide block mainly works based on the internal total reflection principle. When light enters the light guide block at a proper angle, the light will continuously reflect in its interior and eventually shoot out from the other end. This principle enables the light guide block to effectively transmit light and reduce light loss.
Compared to square structures, hexagonal light guide blocks can reduce light loss by 35%. Light sources with smaller numerical aperture (NA) values require longer light pipes to homogenize the light, while light sources with larger NA values can use shorter light pipes to meet the requirements.
Application field
In the field of optics: it is used to manufacture high-precision optical components such as lenses, prisms, and window plates, especially suitable for ultraviolet lithography and laser systems.
Semiconductor industry: It is a key material for manufacturing quartz boats, diffusion tubes, and etching chambers, which can maintain stable performance at high temperatures.
Lighting field: used for UVLED lighting sources to provide uniform light distribution.
Precision instruments and aerospace fields: used for manufacturing precision measuring tools, spacecraft windows, and sensors to ensure stability in extreme environments.
With its unique material characteristics and light guiding principle, fused silica light guide block has an irreplaceable position in the high-tech field. In order to keep improving technology, its application prospects will be broader.
Precautions
Cleaning and maintenance: Use a soft cleaning cloth and specialized cleaning agent to clean and avoid scratching the surface.
Storage environment: Store in a dry, well ventilated environment to prevent moisture and mold.
Usage: During use, avoid severe vibration and collision to avoid affecting its optical performance.
